Compress PDF

Makes PDFs with pictures smaller — scans, photos, presentations — by re-encoding the images inside at about 300, 150 or 100 dpi. Text, lines and fonts are not touched, so they stay sharp and selectable. A PDF of plain text shrinks only a little: there is nothing heavy in it.

Questions

Which level should I choose?

Medium suits most documents to send by e-mail or upload: scans stay readable when printed. Strong is for screen-only reading. Light keeps quality for printing and only re-encodes the photos.

Why did my PDF hardly shrink?

Because it is mostly text and drawings — they are already compact, and changing them would blur the text. Only pictures inside a PDF can be made much smaller.

Is anything uploaded?

No. It all happens in this tab.
