Hashes a password with bcrypt at the cost you choose, or checks a password against a bcrypt hash ($2a$, $2b$, $2y$). Each hash gets a new salt, so the same password hashes differently every time.

Questions
Which cost should I use?
10–12 for most web apps in 2026: each step doubles the time. Pick the highest your server can afford per login.
Is the password sent anywhere?
No. Hashing and checking run in this tab, and the hash field is not stored.
