Colour shades & harmonies

Builds a 50–950 shade scale from one colour, the way Tailwind palettes are laid out, or the colours that go with it: complementary, analogous, triadic, split and tetradic. Built in OKLCH, so steps look even.

Questions

Why OKLCH?

In OKLCH equal steps of lightness look equal to the eye, so the middle of the scale does not go muddy and the dark end does not jump. Colours outside sRGB are brought back by lowering saturation.

Is my colour in the scale?

Yes, exactly — on the step whose lightness is closest to it, usually 500 or 600.
